Ali Ergashevich Hamroyev is a well-known Uzbek director, screenwriter, and actor. Honored Artist of Uzbekistan (1969). Laureate of the State Prize of Uzbekistan named after Hamza (1971). Ali Hamroyev was born on May 19, 1937, in Tashkent. His father was Ergash Hamroyev. Ali Hamroyev studied at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow. He graduated from VGIK in 1961.
Hamroyev gained fame in the USSR for the films he made in the 1960s and 1970s. To date, Ali Hamroyev has created over 30 documentaries and over 20 feature films.
Hamroyev's most famous films are "Yor-Yor" (1964), "The Bodyguard" (1972), and "Vodiyllik kelin" (1984). Hamroyev's film "Bo Ba Bu" (1998) was shown in many European countries. In 2010, Hamroyev announced that Jack Nicholson had agreed to play the role of Amir Temur in his new film.
Hamroyev began working as a director at "Uzbekfilm" in 1961. "Bolalar haqida kichik hikoyalar" was his first film. Ali Hamroyev is known for his films such as "Yor-yor", the first Uzbek film-opera "Dilorom", "Laylak keldi, yoz boʻldi", "Qizil qum", "Favqulodda komissar", "Shijoat", "Yettinchi oʻq", "Muxlis", "Inson qushlar ortidan boradi" (which won the prize for "Best Direction" at the Delhi Festival, 1977), and "Mevazorlik ayol". He also directed documentaries such as "Salom, Bahor!", "Turkiston", "Oʻzbekiston", "Toshkent jasorati", and others.
