Biography

Bahrom Rahmonov, who was a lawyer by profession, also occupies a worthy place in the history of our literature with dozens of passionate and topical journalistic articles and the stage work «Yurak Sirlari» («Secrets of the Heart»). The writer was born in 1915 in Tashkent into an educated artisan family, and after finishing secondary school, he entered the Tashkent State Law Institute. After obtaining his higher education, he studied in the postgraduate program at the same institute.

In 1939-1940, he studied at the 78th Infantry Regiment school in Krasnodar. After graduating from the school, he served as a division commander in that same regiment. Because the future writer was a lawyer, on the eve of the war, he served as a military investigator in the prosecutor's office of the 74th Infantry Regiment on the Southern Front. Having endured all the hardships of the Second World War from start to finish, he returned to his home city of Tashkent in 1946. At first, he worked as an assistant prosecutor in the Turkestan Military District, and then as the head of a department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1948 to 1953, he first managed the propaganda department of the «Qizil O‘zbekiston» («Red Uzbekistan», now «O‘zbekiston Ovozi») newspaper, and a short time later was appointed deputy editor-in-chief of this newspaper. His entry into literary creation began during the days he was working at the newspaper, and initially, he wrote dozens of journalistic articles.

«Although Bahrom Rahmonov was a lawyer,» recalls writer and journalist Maqsud Qoriyev in his book «Ezgulikka Intilib» («Striving for Virtue») (1998), «he was a person with infinite passion for journalism, literature, and art.» Indeed, his dozens of journalistic works dedicated to the problems of socio-economic and cultural-educational life stood out in particular for their extreme relevance.

Bahrom Rahmonov served as the chairman of the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan from 1955 to 1958, but the injustices and tragedies he faced during the life path of a truth-seeking and extremely conscientious person did not remain without consequences.

He could have lived long like other people and created many good works, but an untimely death took him from us at only 48 years of age. This was in April 1963.
