B. Usmanov, who has designed major facilities in Uzbekistan and abroad, is a recipient of the State Prize of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the title of «Honored Architect of Uzbekistan», and the International «Aga Khan» Award for the restoration of architectural monuments in the historical region of Bukhara. He is a full member of the International Academy of Architecture of Eastern Countries.

Botir Usmanov was born in Tashkent in 1941. After graduating from the Faculty of Architecture at the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute in 1969, he began his professional career as a group leader of architects at the State Design Institute of Uzbekistan.

From 1971 to 1978, he was the chief project architect at the Tashkent General Design Institute; from 1978 to 1982, he served as a chief department architect at the Scientific-Research and Design Institute for the Restoration of Cultural Monuments of Uzbekistan; and from 1982 to 1988, he was the director of the Experimental Scientific-Restoration Artistic Architecture Organization of Uzbekistan.

From 1988 to 1989, he worked as the deputy head of the General Directorate of Architecture and Construction of Tashkent; from 1989 to 1990, he was the head of the General Directorate of Architecture and Construction of Tashkent and the Chief Architect of Tashkent; from 1990 to 1993, he held the position of deputy chairman of the State Committee for Architecture of Uzbekistan, and since 1998, he has been serving as the head of the General Directorate for the Preservation of Cultural Monuments of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Applying the knowledge gained during his student years and gaining considerable experience by participating in the design and construction of small buildings, B. Usmanov gradually built large administrative and residential facilities and leisure centers. He participated in the restoration of the Prince Romanov and Polovtsev palaces in Tashkent.

He also built the multi-story building of the Ministry of Road Transport of Uzbekistan, the building of the Gas Administration of Uzbekistan, the building of the Scientific-Research and Design Institute for the Restoration of Cultural Monuments of Uzbekistan, a 12-story residential building, the «Uzbekistan» sanatorium complex in Sochi, a teahouse with 200 seats at the «Uzbekistan» sanatorium, and the «Uzbekistan» pavilion built at the 12th World Festival of Youth and Students held in Moscow.

During the years of independence, many historical-cultural facilities were built in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Urgench, Fergana, and other cities in honor of great historical figures and cultural figures of the past, and existing ones were restored. In this, the architects of our republic fully utilized all opportunities and participated actively.

New facets of B. Usmanov's potential and talent also shone brightly during these years. Over the last decade, he has been closely involved in most of the major projects built in Uzbekistan and abroad.

The building of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Moscow, the «Uzbekistan» teahouse in Suhl, Germany, the rebuilt building of the «Tashkent» restaurant in Volgograd, and the monumental statues dedicated to Amir Temur in Tashkent and Shahrisabz are the products of B. Usmanov's work during the years of independence.

He also participated in the restoration of historical monuments in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Shahrisabz, and Kokand.

B. Usmanov participated in a number of competitions and was a prize-winner several times. He participated in symposiums, congresses, and seminars on the Uzbek and international levels with articles and lectures.

In 1999, he was awarded the «Certificate of High Merit» (Grandi) at a symposium dedicated to mosque architecture held in Saudi Arabia. He is the author of the book-albums «Architectural Monuments of Uzbekistan» dedicated to the 2500th anniversary of the cities of Bukhara and Khiva in 1997.

For designing and building the «Uzbekistan» trade trajectory complex in Sochi, B. Usmanov was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 1977. In 1988, he was awarded the title of «Honored Architect of Uzbekistan», and in 1995, he received the International «Aga Khan» Award for the restoration of architectural monuments in the historical region of Bukhara.
