Hotam Fayziyev

Honored Artist of Uzbekistan, cinematographer and film director Hotam Fayziyev was born in 1937 in Tashkent. In 1958, he graduated from the cinematography faculty of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK, Moscow), and in 1983, he graduated from the drama directing department of the Tashkent Institute of Theatre and Fine Arts.

H. Fayziyev, who worked as an assistant cinematographer at the "Uzbekfilm" studio from 1958 to 1959, and has been working as a cinematographer since 1959, had his independent debut with the feature film "Besh og'ayni."

Since then, he has created fruitful work, shooting feature films that have remained an indelible page in the history of Uzbek cinema, such as "Sen yetim emassan" (1962), "Toshkent — non shahri" (1967), "Favqulodda komissar" (1969), "Abu Rayhon Beruniy" (1974), "Dilorom" (1968), and "O'tgan kunlar" (1998).

These works of art were warmly received by the audience and evaluated positively in the press. Of course, the creative work of cinematographer H. Fayziyev played a significant role in this.

Also, from 1960 until the years of independence, H. Fayziyev participated as a cinematographer in most, and as a film director in some, of the feature films created at the "Uzbekfilm" studio, including "Sahro osmoni" (1963), "Vijdon amri sari" (1965), "Surayyo" (1964), "Nur va soya" (1970), "Yilning to'rt fasli" (1976), "Jala" (1979), "Ehtiyot bo'ling, ilonlar" (1980), "Komila" (1982), "Diyonat" (1983), "Yolg'izlikda" (1984), "Buvijonimni qaytarib bering" (1986), "Hayot mazmuni" (1987), "Uran planetasining sayyorasi" (1990), "Alangadagi farishta" (1991), "Alif Laylo" (1992), "Oq bino oqshomlari" (1988), "Yulduzingni ber osmon" (1995), "Katta janjal" (1996), and "Chimildiq" (1999), and came to public attention as a talented film figure.

H. Fayziyev's services are also significant in the creation of hundreds of documentary and short films shot in Uzbekistan over the last 40 years.

Documentary and short films such as "Toshkent zilzilasi" (1967), "Samarqand — hamisha men bilan" (1968), "Navoiy shahri" (1975), "Mening ming qiz va o'g'lonlarim" (1975), "Farg'ona qizlari" (1976), "Chotqol qo'riqxonasi" (1977), "Yo'l chetida qoldirilib ketilganlar" (1977), "Evropaga yo'l" (1992), "Avlodnoma" (1994), "Murodning orzu-umidlari" (1995), "Esenin" (1995), and "Ayol madhiyasi" (1996) are the products of his creative work.

He worked as a director and cinematographer on many editions of the newsreels "Nashtar" and "Zumrasha." H. Fayziyev's unique, inimitable talent and potential as a cinematographer were vividly demonstrated in these cinematic works.

Many of the feature and documentary films shot by H. Fayziyev between 1960 and 1998 won prizes at festivals held in Chisinau, Saint Petersburg, Tbilisi, Baku, Almaty, Tehran, Bukhara, and other cities.

Hotam Fayziyev's services to the development of Uzbek cinema over nearly half a century were fittingly appreciated. In 1969, he was awarded the title of "Honored Artist of Uzbekistan," in 1970, he won the Republican State Prize, and in honor of the eighth anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, he was awarded the "El-yurt hurmati" order.
