Ibrohim G'afurov

Writer, Translator
Ibrohim G'afurov
Date of birth:
1937 Dekabr 27

His first stories and articles began to appear in the press starting in 1957. His first book, «Go‘zallikning olmos qirralari» (Diamond Facets of Beauty), was published in 1963. For forty years, he has been analyzing and researching the lively processes of Uzbek literature. He observes the manifestations of the principles of truthfulness, humanity, justice, national identity, and impartiality in art, and in this way, conducts scientific-critical research in the image of various writers and literary phenomena. He researches the reflection of humanity and universal human values in our classical literature. He makes interesting observations on the entry of literary generations onto the scene and their firm establishment in literature, as well as on uncovering the uniqueness and inimitable characteristics of their searches and experiences, and the formation of characteristic facets.

Ibrohim G‘afurov, in the years 1980—2000, considered it one of the most urgent tasks to raise issues such as independence culture, spirituality, freedom and morality, the formation of new human views, and the awakening of consciousness, based on the social-political, economic, and cultural-spiritual ideas put forward by Islam Karimov, and he has been writing in this vein. He is also making a worthy contribution to the integration and taking root of classic examples of world literature into the foundation of our national literature, and to the enrichment of literary phenomena and connections.

Ibrohim G‘afurov's book «O‘ttiz yilning izhori» (Confession of Thirty Years, 1987) was awarded a State Prize (1988), and his book «Yonar so‘z» (Burning Word) was awarded a Youth Prize (1977). He is a member of the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan. He actively participates in public work. He was a deputy of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan for two convocations (1996 — 2005). He has been awarded the «Do‘stlik» (Friendship, 1995) and «Mehnat shuhrati» (Glory of Labor, 2007) orders. Currently, he teaches courses on the history and practice of translation theory at the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the National University of Uzbekistan and the Faculty of Translation Studies of the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages.
