The prominent composer and educator Mirsodiq Tojiyev, who contributed to the development of Uzbek national symphonic and chamber instrumental music, was born in 1944 in Tashkent. While a student, first at the capital's music college, then at the Tashkent State Conservatory in the class of R. Vildanov, the symphonic poem "Poet's Love" and his first and second symphonies brought the talented young artist great fame.
After successfully completing his studies, he worked effectively at the Tashkent Music College, the Uzbekistan State Philharmonic named after M. Qoriyoqubov, the Republican Union of Composers, and the Tashkent State Conservatory.
In the 60s, M. Tojiyev created a string quartet (1965), "Wolves" (romance-ballad based on text by M. Jalil, 1966), a trio for piano, violin, and cello (1967), "Poet's Love" (symphonic poem, 1968) based on the drama "Alisher Navoiy" by Uygur and I. Sultan, a concerto for piano and orchestra (1964), and the symphonic ballet "Oygul and Baxtiyor" (1970) based on the poem "Oygul and Baxtiyor" by H. Olimjon.
Despite the widening scope of his creative activities over time, the pure symphony genre held a central place in his work, and his third symphony, created in 1972, soon became famous, signifying the composer's rise to maturity. In a short time, he was recognized by the cultural public as the most powerful and leading symphonist.
His 19 symphonies, created one after another over nearly thirty years, became a unique musical chronicle of Uzbekistan. When the composer addressed important and relevant themes of our time, he expressed them with deep meaning, perfect form, bright style, and great skill.
He succeeded in creatively applying global achievements in the field of symphonic music on the foundation of Uzbek national music. In this regard, he made an important contribution to the formation of Uzbek symphonic thought and succeeded in creating a national symphonic school. This was the artist's great achievement. Also, the musical comedy "Old Men and Old Women", the opera "Kumush", the panoramic painting soundtrack "Heart of Ancient Samarkand", instrumental concertos, and charming melodies remained as an invaluable legacy from the artist.
Following the example of the ringing sounds discovered by the composer, new traditions of melody-making grounded in deep nationality rose toward classical peaks. M. Tojiyev's selected works were performed at prestigious conferences and concert programs held in almost all regions of Central Asia, in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Kiev, Minsk, and Riga, as well as in Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Austria, Germany, Cuba, and other countries. The artist's 4th symphony was performed at the International Symphonic Music Festival held in Tashkent in 1998.
The services of the talented composer and educator M. Tojiyev in the prosperity of Uzbek music art were rewarded with the title "Honored Artist of Uzbekistan".
