People's Poet of Uzbekistan Muhammad Yusuf was born on April 26, 1954, in the village of Qovunchi, Marhamat district, Andijan region. In 1973, he entered the Republican Institute of Russian Language and Literature. After graduating from the institute in 1978, he went to serve in the military.

He began his career in 1980. He worked as an editor at the Republican Readers' Society (1980-82), a reporter for the "Toshkent Oqshomi" newspaper (1982-86), an editor at the G'. G'ulom Literature and Art Publishing House (1986-92), a senior editor at the "O'zbekiston Ovozi" newspaper (1992-93), deputy editor-in-chief at the National Information Agency of Uzbekistan (1993), head of the organizational work and correspondence department at the "Navro'z" charitable foundation (1994-95), special reporter for the "Vatan" newspaper (1995), head of a department at the editorial office of the "Tafakkur" magazine (1995-96), literary advisor at the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan from 1996 to 1997, and from 1997 to 2001, he served as the deputy chairman for Youth Affairs at the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan.

Muhammad Yusuf's books titled "Tanish teraklar" (1985), "Bulbulga bir gapim bor" (1987), "Uyqudagi qiz" (1989), "Halima enam allalari" (1989), "Iltijo" (1989), "Ko'nglimdagi yor" (1991), "Bevafo ko'p ekan" (1991), "Ishq kemasi" (1991), "Osmonimga olib ketaman"(?), "Erka kiyik" (1992), "Yolg'onchi yor" (1994), "O'zingdan qo'ymasin xalqim" (2000), "Saylanma" (2001), "Ulug'imsan Vatanim" (2004), "Xalq bo'l, elim" (?), and "Biz baxtli bo'lamiz" (2008) have been published.

In 1997, he was a student at the Academy of State and Social Construction under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

He was awarded the "Do'stlik" Order in 1996, and the title of "People's Poet of Uzbekistan" in 1998.

In 2000, he was elected as a deputy of the Oliy Majlis.
