Activity

He taught literature in schools, colleges, as well as at the Andijan State Pedagogical Institute. His creative work also began in those years, and his first poem was published in the journal «Yangi Yo‘l» (New Path) in 1927 under the title «Mehnat Qo‘ynida» (In the Embrace of Labor). Then his collections such as «She’rlar» (Poems) (1933), «Fidokor» (Selfless) (1939), «Moskva» (Moscow) (1941), and poem cycles such as «Kulgi» (Laughter) (1936), «Shodligim» (My Joy) (1939), and «Ochiq Chehralar» (Open Faces) (1939) appeared.

His fairy-tale poems such as «Qaldirg‘och» (Swallow) and «Jannat» (Paradise) express the romantic world of young readers. In the poetic fairy tale «Zangori Gilam» (Blue Carpet), the poet uses folklore motifs extensively to reveal the inner world and secrets of the youth. In the epic poem «Karim va Kunduz», he speaks about labor and its pleasure and comfort.

The poet's epic poem «Bruno» is an important stage in his creative work. It embodies the immortal image of Giordano Bruno.

Sulton Jo'ra created many works for children.

Works such as «Haralar Paradi» (Parade of Letters), «Tinish Belgilarining Majlisi» (Assembly of Punctuation Marks), «Yolg‘onchi» (The Liar), «Cho‘ntak» (Pocket), «Oy Nechta» (How Many Moons), and «Sog‘inchli Salom» (Longing Greeting) are among the best examples of children's literature.

During the war years, Sulton Jo'ra's work rose to a new level. In a number of poems such as «Pulemyotchi Ovozi» (Voice of the Machine Gunner), «To‘pchi Muhammad» (Gunner Muhammad), «Nayzamiz» (Our Bayonet), and «Chavandoz» (Horseman), he loudly sang of patriotic ideas.

During these years, the poet also created the drama «Iroda» (Will). Among his works created on the theme of war, the poem «Sog‘inchli Salom» is of particular importance. In it, he pours curses on the war, which caused the separation of parents, lovers and siblings, young men and women, and relatives.

The poet says:

I missed you, my light, but what can be done,

Every separation has a reunion, -

expressing faith in the meeting after victory.
