Usmon Azim is a poet, playwright, screenwriter, and prose writer. The poems and epic poems included in the dozens of collections he has created occupy a deep place in the hearts of readers with their richness in vivid feelings and expressions, their fervor and charm, their intensity and call to action, and their tones that are sometimes sad and sometimes innocently caressing. Biography
Usmon Azimov holds the title of People's Poet of Uzbekistan and is a laureate of the «Ofarin» award and Georgia's State Prize named after V. Mayakovsky.
Usmon Azim is a poet, playwright, screenwriter, and prose writer. He was born in 1950 in the Boysun District of Surkhandarya Region. In 1972, he graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Tashkent State University. He initially worked as a journalist in various newspapers, magazines, publishing houses, and on national radio.
For a certain time, he also performed the duties of a State Advisor (for youth affairs) in the Office of the President of the Republic. Currently, the author is mainly engaged in creative work.
Usmon Azim gained the attention of the literary public with his first poetry book, «Insonni tushunish» (Understanding the Human), published in 1979.
Usmon Azim has been awarded the title of People's Poet of Uzbekistan (2000), as well as the «Ofarin» award in the nomination for the best poetry work of the year and the Georgian State Prize named after V. Mayakovsky (1982).
The play «Kunduzsiz kechalar» (Nights Without Days), staged at our National Theater, won the «Best Play» award at the international theater festival held in Andijan.

In 1995, the poet published his poetry book «Saylanma» (Selected Works). This book was met with great interest by the literary public, and it became clear that Usmon Azim is one of the brightest talents of 20th-century Uzbek literature. The poetry book «Kuz» (Autumn), published in 2001, is considered one of the pinnacles of our poetry in recent years.

Usmon Azim's poems have been translated into French, German, English, Polish, Estonian, Georgian, Macedonian, Lithuanian, Turkish, Tajik, Russian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, and other languages. In turn, Usmon Azim has translated samples of the work of dozens of poets such as Éluard, Dağlarca, Voznesensky, Vācietis, and Marcinkevičius into Uzbek. Many of the poet's poems are turned into songs and performed by well-known singers.
The poet, who tried his hand at radio drama in the early period of his creativity (plays such as «Baxtli bo‘laylik», «Hujjatli film uchun syujet», and «Bahodir va malika»), began writing drama in later years. His plays «Kunduzsiz kechalar» (1998), «Alpomishning qaytishi» (Return of Alpomish, 2000), «Bir qadam yo‘l» (A Step's Distance, 2002), «O‘tgan zamon hangomalari» (Tales of the Past, 2003), and «Adibning umri» (Life of the Author, 2005) have been staged.
For «Alpomishning qaytishi», the author was recognized as the «Best Playwright» of 1999. The poet is also testing his strength in the art of cinema. He wrote the script for the film «Sevgi» (Love, 1998) based on his own story. Based on his script, the two-part film «Alpomish» (2000) was shot. For the film interpretation of the epic «Alpomish», the author received a special award at the film festival held in Bukhara.
